Description:

Made of intricate layers of cardboard, this sinous chair designed by Ghery is the perfect example of Ecodesign: an ecologic and enviromental friendly object made of recycled materials and with low impact producion and dismission processes.

Frank Gehry made design history in 1972 when he designed a whole set of curvy modern furniture out of cardboard. You’ve more than likely seen Gehry’s classic Wiggle Chair hanging out around stylish offices and design spaces - showing off the strength, durability, and organic comfort that is possible with layered corrugated cardboard. image source: www.inhabitat.com

One of his Easy Edges chairs, the Wiggle is composed of sixty layers of cardboard bonded and screwed together. Gehry transformed an everyday material – the corrugated cardboard from which his architectural models were made - into a solid sculptural form. “I began to play with it, to glue it together and to cut it into shapes with a hand saw and a pocket knife,” he recalled. image source: www.designmuseum.org

The well known architect Frank Gehry was the pioneer of creating furniture out of carboard in the 1970s, and his gorgeous designs, like the wiggle chair (left), are studied throughout design schools worldwide. More recently, cardboard has been used to make furniture in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and even to make eco coffins in Hong Kong! image source: www.ecocentric.co.uk
