iDiscover

Welcome to "iDesign": an interactive, innovative, entertaining and easy-usable e-learning tool which will assist and guide you into the complex world of design. "iDesign" is an educational on-line media which has the primary aim to educate and assist users in understanding and sensing design in order to develop a personal design style. "iDesign" will help you to better understand the history, the evolution and the principles of interior design and small scale architecture. "iDesign" is based on a series of web-applications: iExplore, iSense, iInvestigate, iGamelearn, iNavigate. Thanks to these auxiliary tools, the visitor will be able to understand design and assimilate knoledge in many different ways. Historical, sensitive, commercial, 2d and 3d navigation applications are provided to the user in order to fully comprehend the various particularities of interior design. The visitor will have the possibility to investigate the different design styles and authors, navigate through design industries sites, appreciate the finest commercial products, play with materials and colors and eventually learn how to develop a personalized interior on his own.

Commonly, traditional interior design sites only offer you series and series of lists and info, and they seem more like newspaper sites than something concerned with the aesthetical power of design. Instead if you visit "iDesign" you will be immersed in an entertaining information environment which will stimulate your curiousity, engagement and aesthetic sense. In fact "iDesign" is based on the concept of immersive education, on which d.g.b.l. ( digital game based learning ) is found. Many d.g.b.l. theorists, such as Prensky (2001), sustain that involving the user at the point that he only focus on the action causes a situation of maximum concentration and isolation of external distractions. Accordingly "iDesign" is ment to be a captivating experience which would transport the user into the design creation process instead of proposing an aseptic and flat newspaper-like learning environment.

iExplore

i explore sketch

Would you like to have a brief but substantial overview of the History of Design? Are you tired of going down infinite and extremely boring "newspaper-like" Interior Design educational sites with millions pieces of informations about history of design? "iDesign" offers you the possibility of having a fresh and entertaining on-line educational tool: "iExplore". Thanks to iExplore you can visualize a brief, simple and undemanding summarization of the the History of Design. In fact iExplore is an entertaining web application structured as an interactive timeline covering a vast area of interest: from ancient to contemporary design. The timeline displays a well defined selection of keystones which have been organized in order to give a brief, uncomplicated and straightforward view of the History of Design. However you will be given the possibility to go into more depth in you research by directing your navigation towards more specific dedicated sites.

iSense

i sense sketch

Would you like to know what are the main elements of interior design and "small scale architecture? This flash based application called "iSense" is actually an entertaining e-learning tool which has the aim to illustrate the principles of interior design in relation to our senses, rather than just give standard, formal and aseptic descriptions and photos. Practically iSense gives the user the possibility to approach interior design from different angles, according to personal feelings and sensations. Approach design through senses and not through dogmas and ordinary notions, this is the aim of this innovative application. The user will be able to access the various areas dedicated to a particular sense and from there he will discover what interior design elements and solutions are more appropriate to his personal taste, habits and preferences. Finally, iSense provides links to more specific design websites that can help the user to widen is knoledge.

iInvestigate

i investigate sketch

Would you like to know about the foremost interior design authors and styles? This easy and engaging e-learning application called "iInvestigate" will help you analyze and understand similarities, differences and trends of modern and contemporary interior design solutions. This flash based application is entirely navigable via a navigation bar where you can select a particular design style, designer or architect. Once you have made your choice, a 3d rendering of the interior design type you want to view will be visualized on the "iDesign" screen space. Moreover you will be able to rapidly switch from one visualization to another and so to make your comparisation between different interior design types. Furhtermore, thanks to a virtual magnifing glass you can investigate more deeply the displayed picture. Finally, as in any other application of iDesign you will be given the possibilty to deepen your research by visiting more specific links.

iGame-learn

i gamelearn sketch

Would you like to play a little bit more with interior design? Learning while playing is always the most pleasing thing to do! This experimental part of "iDesign" explores the possibilites and the potentialities of digital game based learning applied to such a serious sector as interior design and small scale architecture. Please take a profitable and entertaining tour of "iGamelearn". This area of iDesign is entirely dedicated to experimental e-learning web games inspired by interior design issues. Widen your knoledge and sharpen your design senses and intuitions simply by playing quizes, puzzles and entertaining games. Play with space, volumes, furniture, design objects, colors, contrasts and many more other elements of design. Once you have amused your self enough, you can fastly return to your serious researches by clicking on the many interior design sources provided by iDesign. Enjoy your game-learning!

iNavigate

i navigate sketch

Would you like to know more about a particular aspect of design? This section called "iNavigate" is entirely dedicated to a selection of various sites sponsored by iDesign. More in particular it is an archive containing all the links presented in all the previous sections of this projects (iExplore, iSense, etc..). Links are organized and displayed in a very intuitive composition, and grouped according to their areas of interest and specifications. The purpose of iNavigate is to provide a clear and straightforward map of iDeign links, in order to facilitate the navigation and direct the user towards the right direction and more in depth researches.
